What to ask before you say yes.
A good opportunity is one you can understand before you commit to it.
CHOPSTICKS FIELD NOTES · 4 min read
A compelling idea deserves a practical conversation. Ask what the role covers, who makes decisions, when the work happens, where it takes place, and how your contribution will be credited. If compensation is involved, agree on the amount and timing in writing.
Find out what is already in place. A script, schedule, location plan, or clear budget can tell you how ready the team is. It is reasonable to ask what will happen if plans change.
Notice how the conversation feels. Are your questions welcomed? Do the expectations match the resources? Saying yes with clarity gives everyone a stronger start, and saying no can leave room for a better fit later.
